If your extended family is anything like mine, then you know how difficult it can be to coordinate a photo with the whole family - grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins - everyone. It's tough to find time to get everyone together at once, so when you are able to do it, you want to make sure to capture the moment with a new family photo. Here are some tips to make your next extended family session go smoothly.
1. Make a Plan
When you have lots of separate families coming together for one photo, it is important that everyone knows what is going to happen. Everyone needs to know where to be and when to be there so make sure all parties know the plan before the photo session.

2. Make a List
You know what I love seeing before a large family session? A list. A list of names, families, and how everyone is related is so helpful. It is also important to have a list of all the different shots you want to get. This helps your photographer to keep everything on track and make sure that the important combinations of people aren't missed.

3. Prioritize
What is the most important shot you want? Usually that is the photo with everyone in it. Put that one on the top of your list. Then think about things like kids attention spans and family combinations and try and arrange the rest of the shots in an order that best makes sense for your family.

4. What to Wear
This is often the most stressful part for families! When choosing outfits, choose a few coordinating colors and try and have one of those colors in your outfit. With a large group, it is usually easier to do more neutral colors so it is easier to coordinate between families. You don't need to do all white or all black!
