I love newborn photos of all kinds, but my favorite newborn photos to shoot are lifestyle newborn photos. What are they and why should you have one?
What is a Lifestyle Newborn Session?
Lifestyle newborn sessions are done in your home and include family members, pets, and items in your house that have special meaning for you and your family. A traditional newborn session will typically have lots of posed shots of your baby in different wraps and blankets. A lifestyle session may have some posed shots of just baby in a basket or on a blanket, but it will also have lots of candid and natural photos of you and your new baby in your home. The most common spots for photos in your home are the living area, the master bedroom, and of course the nursery!
Why do you need a Lifestyle Newborn Session?
What I love about these sessions are that they really show your families personality and style. They photos will look great hanging on your walls! You get to capture all the details of your newly decorated nursery and remember those sweet baby snuggles in your new rocker. Best of all, you don't even have to leave your house!
What to expect during a Lifestyle Newborn Session?
Before the session, I contact the parents to talk about any areas of the house they want to include or avoid. We also discuss clothing, the best time of day for the photos, and answer any questions that the parents have. During the session, I direct the parents but keep the poses natural and relaxed.
What if my baby gets fussy during the session?
That's ok and totally normal! Babies are unpredictable and as a newborn photographer, being flexible and patient is part of the job. It is always ok to take a break to feed, change, or just snuggle.
